Modification & Correcting Canine Behavior

The first step in analyzing canine behavior is a proper evaluation.

Evaluation helps the professional trainer analyze the dogs behavior and and prepare a tailored step-by-step program.
During an evaluation the professional analyzes what stage the dog is currently in the hierarchy of the home.

Examples of things a trainer looks for:

  • strengths

  • Weaknesses

  • Character

  • Temperament

  • Alertness

  • Dominance

The professional will use the strengths and weekness of the dog to obtain the end results. Once the basic evaluation is complete the trainer will determine the dogs position in the hierarchy of its family. From there the trainer can work toward correcting unwanted behavior and instilling wanted behavior.

Correcting a Problem

  • Determine the cause(s)
  • Advise the owner on the sequence of steps to stop the behavior

An experienced professional will not take short cuts. Short cuts cover up the unwanted behavior temporarily, but do not correct the problem.

Any behavior that is unwanted can be to a certain degree corrected. Please note that: Situations, circumstances, breed,
age, sex, genetics, environment and owner all play a major role.

Understanding, modifying and correcting canine behavior is a science. It's an art in itself where experienced trainers with behavioral comprehension can guide you.
